Rock River Academy provides educational and therapeutic services to students with special education eligibilities at our picturesque location in Rockford. The school curriculum is available to both residential and community students. Our students are boys and girls who range in age from 5-21 and are in grades Kindergarten through 12th. Students working on transitional or self-sufficiency plans may attend beyond age 18 and 12th Grade. Rock River Academy is a 12-month school program with the goal of the students transitioning back to their home school district. The Individual Education Plan of each student is implemented in a way that emphasizes their strengths and provides therapeutic interventions to help students overcome behavioral issues. Based on the individual needs of the child, each student will receive therapy every week including:
Individual therapy - 1 session a week (most receive several sessions a week)
Group therapy - 3 sessions a week
Family therapy – offered on a weekly basis and strongly encouraged
Each self-contained classroom accommodates up to 10 students and is educated by an Illinois State Board of Education Certified Special Education Teacher, as well as a Certified Para-Professional. All student services are provided by special education teachers, psychologists, licensed counselors, licensed social workers and certified Para-professionals by the Illinois State Board of Education and by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Medical services are available as needed and are provided by a Registered Nurse in consultation with the students’ families and medical providers. Our students enjoy the full school experience of education, social activities, guidance and sports. Rock River Academy is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and by the North Central Association.
