Our knowledgeable team of professionals is comprised of board certified and child trained physicians, in addition to a host of master’s level clinicians. The clinical program utilizes various strength and evidence based approaches depending on the individual needs of each resident ensuring that they get exceptional personalized care. Individual, Group, and Family Therapies are provided by an interdisciplinary team of professional staff. We also provide training in anger management, social skills, daily living, coping skills and communication skills. Our staff works on the strengths of residents to help them better cope and work through their challenges.

Why Rock River Residential Center?

Rock River’s focus is not only stabilizing our residents, but also teaching them the valuable skills necessary for a successful return to their communities. We also know that there are many factors that go into making a residential stay successful.

First and foremost, we make the residents feel safe and give them the highest quality treatment and health care. From the administration down to the line staff, we truly care about our residents and are committed to seeing them succeed. Each staff member functions as part of a team to ensure a cohesive structured culture that builds a secure and trusting environment. One way that shows our commitment to quality care is our high staff to resident ratio. At Rock River we start at a 3:1 ratio with the ability to go 1:1. We provide a beautiful home where living conditions are ideal thanks to re-modeling complete with spacious bedrooms, new furniture and amenities, and a Physical Education/Expressive Therapy Facility. A unique feature to our facility is that we have time delayed locks on our doors, which provide safety as well as help aid in discouraging elopement. Our therapeutic day school is also onsite to eliminate the distraction of transitioning to another building. Another unique feature is that our nursing staff is onsite almost 24 hours a day ensuring that a healthcare professional is on hand to personally see residents if a medical emergency arises. Our experienced clinical team has a strong background of different methods, which equip us to handle specific mental health needs (i.e. trauma, self injury, abuse, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, etc).

The structure and substance of our program also sets Rock River Academy apart from the rest. We always keep “what’s best” for the kids in mind to ensure that their treatment comes first. We strive to show the kids their potential (not their deficits) and teach them ways to reach that potential. The goal in treatment is to make lasting positive life changes.

Along with more traditional methods we utilize Expressive Therapy to help process through trauma by using art and other activities. Expressive groups can also focus on anger management, social skills, patience, self-esteem, team building exercises, etc. Everyday residents have three group therapies (Community Group, Process Group and Reflection Group). In order for any group to be useful, processing is the key. Once again, being able to find life application that they can take with them upon discharge.

In order to make discharge a smooth transition, Rock River has a life skills program called Building Bridges. In Building Bridges, skills like budgeting, hygiene, laundry and simple car care are taught along with Leisure Education. Some of our residents are only familiar with negative social activities and its important to teach them alternative activities to do for fun. In Leisure Education we teach the residents fun proactive social activities that the females actually enjoy. Some examples include: horseback riding, rock climbing wall, bike simulators, musical and theatre productions, fashion shows, and sports programming through Illinois Inter-Agency Athletic Association. To gain real-life expertise, professionals come in and teach the females trades such banking and realty for example. Something else the residents enjoy is Pet Therapy, which we utilize through PAWS (part of the Delta Society). Our leadership staff does a fantastic job at developing programs that not only teach the females valuable information, but also does their best to peak their interests.
